Hope

Hope

I too could be a masquerade
Dancing in the street if Oyo
Rejoicing at the clatter of tongues my mother had taught
Sweating profusely and giving in to the sin of pride.
My beads will speak and only the wise will hear
That by the earth I was born, reincarnating from the birth of time.

And when I stagger and let out a roar
My children will scream praises and fall at my feet
Seeking mercy from whom is subject to power
I too could be a masquerade
Dancing in the Street of Oyo
Letting the market women blow leaves at me.
At least that’s my hope, to live by sun and walk the earth in darkness.
To trend a path most feared by all
Letting light to the forgotten one.
This is my request, final and true
“Bring the news and let me out to dance, let the Sun bear witness and the wind swirl in delight . So I be a masquerade again, ever reincarnating from the birth of time”
